Well, this is awkward...
I just bought a Samsung Captivate from eBay for my gf. It currently has 2.1 on it. I read that it can be upgraded to 2.2. However, I don't see any one way to do it. Everything seems very unofficial. (on par with jailbreaking an iPhone) That being said, I was wondering if there's some definitive way to upgrade that I'm not finding though a Google search. Much help is appreciated. Thanks.
BTW, I'm running Mac OSX snow leopard if that is any relevance.
UPDATE: I tried posting this on Android forums and have gotten no response. So I thought, who's a reliable community...oh yea! MMi
I know you all probably aren't android wizzes, but maybe someone knows how to get the information I need. Thanks.

Not awkward at all, it's just too bad it wasn't an iPhone question. Bc you're missing out on amazing iPhone gurus such as Simon, Orby, Mes, and iYeow

I might be heading over to visit MMM later on, I'm curious about that Gooapple Android powered iPhone 4 clone. So let me know how it is over there
Note**Not leaving MMi or anything though, don't even think about kicking me out MMi moderators

Interesting. I know the term for Android is rooting and that's the farthest my knowledge extends on Android haha.
I'm gonna try to root the gooapple phone when I get it.

What is this "rooting" you speak of?

Rooting is a process that allows users of mobile phones and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's Linux subsystem with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and manufacturers put on some devices. It is analogous to jailbreaking on devices running the Apple iOS operating system.

Ah, I see. Well that clears up some fog. But the prima dilemma still stands. How do I get it upgraded to 2.2 or 2.3? Comparing this to the iPhone's simplicity of updating software is virtually polar.

ah. That looks pretty cool. If you get it, please let us know how it is!
It seems china is actually producing some decent clones or just phones in general now.

Well answer away with your Android on this iPhone forum

For sure, I'm really curious about it. The clones are getting better and better, 1) the exterior isn't so cheap anymore and 2) they actually put a pretty decent OS on them now. I'll probably stick a review up here eventually lol. Would never give up my real iPhone though.
