Not sure about the rest of the world but here in Aus there is a new iPhone ad on TV.
"If you don't have an iPhone" ad.
Anyone noticed there is no service logo next to the 3G icon on the taskbar?
You get the signal bars then 3G.
I believe you cant do that without jailbreaking it.
So the iPhone on TV is jailbreaked?
EDIT: Have a look at the video here. No service name/logo.

It's called advertising my friend. They have multiple carriers and cannot show any one in particular. As far as jailbroken, they invented it.... it's a lot more open than you'll ever see it when the person who built it is pressing the magic buttons........... (I wish I knew that sequence! it's gotta be stupid simple like vol up + home twice +........)Screw #Winning, I'm #Juanning

OT: You don't even need a jailbroken iPhone to do that. There's a carrier bundle in stock iOS "Unknown.bundle" that will display whatever name the network states (for any MNC+MCC carrier codes not in the phone, like T-Mobile US or NTT DoCoMo).
Apple certainly has the hardware to broadcast a "test" network without a set carrier name. Or, you know, they green-screened the physical device while shooting, and simply removed the carrier name in post-production. Or they used a dev-fused device and just manually edited the name out of the corresponding PLIST.

It still looks better if they just jailbreaked it then removed the carrier.
Doesn't make crApple look bad if you go through all that jargon.
