Good phone for my mom?
$100-200 price range, new or used doesn't matter.
She's not exactly tech savvy so something simple.
She her previous phones have been a nokia, razr, and now she has the razr 2.
She says she likes flip phones that are thin.
I myself can't think of any new phone that fits this criteria!
Everything seems to be moving towards smartphones and touch screens.
I saw the new BB Flip but it's only for Sprint, we have T-mobile and it's out of my price range.
Any suggestions?
-tmobile or gsm unlocked
-thin
-flip
-easy to use
-fairly new model 1-2 years old
-$100-$200 new or used
-maybe an upgraded camera?

Like u mentioned, all phones are going for the touch screen feel so flips are hard to come by...ur gonna have to get her a touch
Androids are gonna be confusing and sluggish sincenu need an app killer to stop processes (which since usay she isn't tech savvy) is gonna be a and idea...I'm gonna have to say a black berry.Last edited by z3r01; 04-12-2011 at 04:39 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I do have an HTC dash (1st model not 3g) that was my previous phone before the iPhone. I might try and get her to switch to that. Cause if I sell it I'll probably only get $40-50 for it and it's a really nice phone.

yes I see the Blackberry 8220 Pearl but it almost has the same features, 2 mp camera, touch front screen, and it's also a little bigger than the current razr 2 she has now!
I also see the Blackberry style 9670 that I mentioned earlier is only for sprint. but also this is a little too advanced for my price range.
is there any blackberry model with features in between these two?

Yeah the 2G sucks hard core I got the 3Gs and it's good, but I'd wait till June when the iPhone5 appears buy it and give her your iphone4, when I but it make sure the account u buy it for is upgradeable otherwise it's like $200 extra then wait a week go to AT&T tell them u lost the iPhone5 so u bought a iphone4 so u can get a 3G sim into it and then tell them u bought a i5 for yourself and u need the new 4g network sim card for it

2G doesn't matter you stated she is not tech savvy so it might just do fine for her.... she doesn't know the difference... the best part of when you get one for her is the experience! a iPhone would be a great choice.
And buy her a case that flips...Last edited by thetoothfairy; 04-13-2011 at 12:56 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I agree somewhat with toothy and bender. I wouldn't think a 3G is too bad if it stays on 3.1.3. It's also under $200 in many areas including mine.
My mom also wasn't (still isn't) tech savvy but I convinced her to get an iPhone 4 on Verizon with me and she can't stop playing games on it lol. Moms (and dads like mine) love Angry Birds
Consider a 3GS 8GB, a little over your price range (my area it is $220-$240) if speed performance is a concern.
The 3G I consider that keeping on 3.1.3 is good but no apps work if made for iOS 4. If she won't be using many apps, it would work out. Many games still work on 3.1.3. I'd still suggest a 3GS though.

If u were to buy a 3G make sure that you can downgrade it to 3.1.3 if it's on 4.0 before buying it, an easy way to know is ask the person if it was ever on 3.1.3 or lower if yes then your good and you can downgrade it
I'm guessing apple still made some 3G after 4.0 came out and locked them to 4.0 and up

I'm not sure any iPhone 3G were released with iOS 4. I haven't seen an iPhone 3G that couldn't be downgraded to 3.1.3 yet.
