If u were to buy a 3G make sure that you can downgrade it to 3.1.3 if it's on 4.0 before buying it, an easy way to know is ask the person if it was ever on 3.1.3 or lower if yes then your good and you can downgrade it

I'm guessing apple still made some 3G after 4.0 came out and locked them to 4.0 and up

I have a 3G and I don't think I ever upgraded to 3.1.3

No i am 99 percent positive that no matter what you can downgrade any 3g to 3.1.3 no matter what came on it.

Yes that's true. I had upgraded my 3G and that's probably why it was slow as hell! Yes maybe I can look into a 3GS maybe find something cheap on craigslist.
