(3x+3)/15 - (5x+25)/15 = 2
(-2x-22)/15=2
-2x-22=30
-2x=52
x=-26
Edit: to break it down logically, find the common denominator which is 15. Multiply the first fraction by 3 on top and bottom to get 3x-3 all over 15. Second fraction multiply top and bottom by 5 to get 5x-25 all over 15. Now you can subtract the fractions. Combine like terms by subtracting 3x and 5x to get -2x and subtract 3 and 25 to get -22. Then you get -2x-22 all over 15. Move 15 to the other side by multiplying both sides (15 cancels on the left) and 2 times 15 is 30. Then add 22 on both sides to cancel it from the left and get 52 on the right. Then divide by -2 on both sides to cancel the left and get -26 on the right. Then you get x=-26. test the result out by plugging -26 in for "x" and you'll find the equation works.Last edited by i.Annie; 12-08-2010 at 09:11 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Been sooooo long it seems since math courses. Not to mention I always had my best friend in my math classes and he is a math wiz. Knew how to do this problem but sort of got distracted with work and forgot about it.

yeah those things are tricky. One little thing missing sets the whole damn equation off haha.
Any other math problems just ask haha, beats troubleshooting iDevices! Math is far less complicated than these contraptions of ours

Somehow it never fails for a thread to end up a 80085 thread.

Waldo is going to be angry in the morning at what this thread has become. I blame Zeal for triggering it.Last edited by Cer0; 12-08-2010 at 11:49 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

The MMi community has helped with math problems before. I think there are a couple homework questions here.
