The only free online console service will go to the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3...but the Wii still needs some fixing.

Had a gold membership before but let it expire because I didn't use the xbox much. Play more on the PS3. I did buy the PSN+ though.

It is not to bad. The free(rented) games are not that bad. My GF is becoming addicted to a couple of them. So looks to be paying for itself for the time being. The recent free PSN game was one I had bought when it came out.

Microsoft isn't raising the prices of xbox live, it currently is free and on november 1 it will still be free. I've never paid a cent for xbox live and i've always had it. it's gold that's gonna cost ya

Considering PS3 is free to play online without the restrictions that The free membership gives you for xbox. yea and buying that 200-300 console id expect to get the full deal of playing online In my opinion Microsoft hasn't done anything special to have a 10 increase, WUHUU My Avatar can look cooler now o wait you have to buy the cool clothes. This is probably to help pay for the lawsuit they have on Apple LOL.

I believe Hulu is coming in Jan 2011 and they're also adding ESPN. I'm sure a few more extra features will also be added but I'm not sure what the others are. $60 a year isn't bad at all for having Xbox Live offer a lot of great features.
I'm not a big fan of the PS3 so I don't know much about it. What I do know, however, is that the PS3 is more expensive and is the only online gaming service that loses features as it's updated and if you don't update you can't play online. Xbox Live gave it's users the choice of updating or keeping the old look and feel of Live and continues to add features... not take them away.

These days? How old are you to have miss the wonderful SNES era when cartridges such as Mario Brothers 3 were $80 new?

Games are cheap as hell and $60 a year for the content and features gold provide is literally still a steal. For everything gold let's me do, I'd gladly pay more.

Oh and whoever posted his paypal account asking for $10, I wanted to let you know that I did NOT send you $10. Instead I went ahead and donated $20 to Doctors Without Borders because I rather have the money I throw away go to a good cause.

Seriously, even my brother who only works in the summer full time then semi part time while studying the rest of the year spends more money than me in games.

Keep a good track of your finances (mint.com is awesome for this, checkbook app if you're younger and don't have your own banking sorted out yet) and you'll be surprised how easy it is to save money and afford whatever you want, especially things likes Gold which you pay once a YEAR. I mean, if you save ONE SINGLE QUARTER a day, you'll have enough for gold and around 3000MSP. WIth just one quarter.
