Looking to purchase a new laptop. Suggestions?

Hey there

I'm looking to get a new computer because mine currently is crap. It can't even run Starcraft I, a game which was released in 1998. I have restored several times, but I think its time to get a new one. I would be getting a laptop, for obvious reasons (portability). Here are what I would use it for:

-Surfing the web
-Schoolwork (Microsoft Office is a must)
-Some graphics (mainly GIMP. Maybe Photoshop, if I end up buying it)
-Listening to music
-Casual downloading
-Very casual gaming. Maybe 1 or 2 games. I already have an Xbox 360 so I would use the PC for games that aren't console based (Starcraft I, Starcraft II, etc)

My price range is $600-$900. I do NOT plan on getting a MacBook. Don't tell me to get a MacBook.

You said you would like one in your first post but overpriced. Check around you can find some deals on them. So I am with westerman on the MacBook idea.

a mac book is about $900. whick is within your price range. if you don't want one, I say sony. Even though they run an inferior OS, they are some of the best windows machines.

Sony vaio is for sure the best laptop you can get in that price range my brother has one and he says he loves his. And i played with it and processor is awesome and does everything you really need it to do

If you get the ASUS, grab a regular Win7 CD, re-partition the HDD, install just Win7. Entirely too much gloat-ware on those machines.

I have an HP I got 2 years ago. It runs WoW at mid-ish settings at like 30fps.

You might try searching for the underground companies that make great comps for a lot less than sony, toshiba, HP, or gateway.
