Road trip from Denver to Los Angeles - need suggestions
I'm planning a good 'ol Griswold family vacation in early summer and looking for suggestions of places to stay in or around the LA area (that are safe, family-friendly), things to do (what beaches are good) and things to do on a budget (i.e. one day at Disney is planned, 1 or 2 days at the beach, etc.
I plan on 2 full days of driving from Denver to LA, spending 4-5 days in LA and then returning. The budget is about $1500, with a preference for finding hotels like Extended Stay for the kitchenette, stopping at Wal-Marts for food, etc. to avoid eating out all the time.

It sounds like Roscoe's is terrible, in a good way. ;-) Looking at the reviews on Yelp!, people enjoy getting their week's worth of calories in one serving. I can't wait to be one of the few, the proud... ;-)

Ah yes... I remember doing that when I lived there... good plan.
What places would you recommend visiting? Good beaches? (I've read about.com's reviews)

Check out Santa Monica pier and there are some nice restaurants that overlook the pier in that area
