Not quite ewwww.... Infact impressively competitive. I dare say aside of some inconveniently placed buttons like the damn volume up/down button, the hardware is superior to the iPhone.

My review is.... I agree with this guy.

    Naw, I have a 3gs 32gb I paid bank for and i love it.

I like to stay grounded and check out the competition. If I get too involved I get biased and complacent at the same time. Bad combo.... you end up burning out. If I didn't have an ATT contract, I'd be happy to try the droid given different circumstances.

It's all about this phone. I had the HTC for a day and it sucked. Moto did well on the droid. The hardware goes to the droid, the software is more polished on the iphone.

    OK so, more thoughts.

The Motorola hardware is slicker, sleeker, and sexier than the sexy iPhone, a tough task to accomplish. The volume button on the side either needs to be made very stiff, or recessed because it's too soft and easy to hit. Otherwise it works great. The screen looks fantastic, the phone is more useable and plays well with others unlike the iPhone.

Software wise we all know the iPhone is more polished and the pinch and zoom multitouch is king.

Bottom line is that next year Apple will bring it's 64gb phone out, but they likely won't do much physical hardware changes as far as new features or a redesign ergonomically. This means that when Android OS updates and becomes more polished next year, the iPhone will be a stale look and the Motorola hardware will not only be better, the software will be getting real close to polished in the next major update of android. It just needs a little bit more work.

Motorola works off of 16gb micro SD cards (larger when they are available later this year) so the sky is the limit on the amount of cards you can have and memory reserve you can have, as well the battery is very simple to swap if it ever goes bad. The body of the Droid is all metal so heavy duty. The camera is an autofocus 5mp camera with flash that is very bright. The hardware just flat pwns the iPhone. I'm going to be watching the next android update very closely.

    More writing, lol....

Hardware wise, it's superior to the iPhone in most every way.

Software wise, I sure hope they get it polished up nicely this year because it is going to force Apple to get off it's butt and open some features.

DROID: The screen is bigger, the camera is better, I never had a querty keyboard so I can't really get used to it. The battery is replaceable, the memory card is replaceable in 16gb sticks, the speaker is louder, the mic is clearer. The body is metal and solid, albeit a bit thick.

Apple: multi touch seamless operation, much more intuitive, much easier to use. Until Droid gets some more polish to the OS, they are going to still be lacking behind the iDevice. Everything about the iPhone is easier. Music, photo's, movies, use and accessibility.

The bottom line: It's harder to use Android 2.0 almost to the point of annoying how you have to come back to the home screen to do something else - which requires several entries. The iPhone feels more centralized where everything is at reach. Nothing is more than one click away. The iPhone is having it's *** handed to it by Motorola in the hardware department right now, but just like Apple V/S anything out there, Apple flat out makes the best software for users experience. It's prettier, smoother, more intuitive, and just flat out better. It doesn't crash, get virus, overload itself, and so on. If you can't wrap your head around an apple device, there is nothing to stop you from the Motorola Droid. If I didn't have the iPhone or I hated AT&T to the point I couldn't stand to be with them... I'd rock it.

Yeah it def has better camera. If Apple has any chance in competing in the 2010 smart phone market they are really going to need to step it up with the iPhone 4G

Great review and pictures... The droid is sweet no doubt about it. In my opinion though, the droid (and any other phone) fails in the aspect that the iPhone has been out for 3 years now and there is just now a phone that can compete with it. When i think the others should be able to blow it away. Maybe it's just the fact that the iPhone was the first of it's kind and so many already have one.
If the iPhone doesn't step up their hardware then there is no reason other phones shouldn't start to catch up and even pass up the iPhone . Also apple better get ahold of it's app store too because I think it's getting a little trashy. I think if an app can't maintain a star and a half or so rating then get it out of there.
That's just what I think though, I'm sure it's all easier said than done

    Nice review!

Even though there is still room for improvements for the iPhone... I love it! I think Apple will keep updating the iPhone each year.... it may not be as fast as we would like but they have a good thing going right now and if they are smart they will keep it that way....

I had a chance to use the Droid for a couple days a few months ago and I really didnt like it. Like one1 said the software is not polished at all. It has a few features that I would like to see on the iPhone but I hate all the buttons and slide out keyboard

My personal phone is a white 32gb 3G[s].

My company phone is a Droid.

I love them both and agree the Droid has ALOT of potential.
