Default new iphone 3gs stuck on apple screen

I bought an apple 3gs 16gb iphone. I took it to someone on craigs list to jail break it for me. he jailbroke it and unlocked it. it seemed to work ok maybe slower since he had to downgrade it to a 3g. i only wanted to be able to run my laptop from work using my iphone's wifi.he downloaded a trail wifi ap from rock on it. it seemed to work ok, but i couldnt use my old wifi anymore...it would not connect to my router at home like it used to before it was jail broke.
long story short i was using my iphone in facebook to talk to my son in afganistan when it lost service. i noticed it said no service and froze. i pushed the sleep button to turn it off and retart it.as i slid the bar over it when to the apple screen and has stayed there for 3 days now. I tried to hook up to itunes, itunes does not see it now.
i did not buy the warranty when i bought it as money was tight. so is it fried and am i screwed now?
I was going to remove the battery and reinstall it to see is itn would reboot. I opened it but it has a do not remove label over 1 screw to access the battery.which i know will kill any chance of any warranty. so i closed it back up.
i liked the aps it had,but thought at&t wanting 60 dollars for a wifi adapter and another 60 per month to use my laptop was outrageous.
I am really getting pretty sick of apple, itunes and just about anything to do with apple now.
is there any save for my phone or am i screwed? if this phone is dead, apple and any product they ever come up with in the future will never see a dime of my money.

Sounds like an ID-10-T error. Spend some time reading around here on DFU mode and blackra1n. (Then practice posting in the forum that doesn't have a sticky that says "do not post questions here")
