Default Quit Smoking Or Trying To? Come On In!

Started this thread for people like myself that quit smoking and to share your thoughts and feelings about it all.

Topics can be about things you used to help you quit
    Weight Gain
    Smell
    Appetiate
    Your Frustrations (keep it nice)
    Why you quit

And anything else you would like to add.... lets try to keep this thread going as long as possible to help the ones trying to quit to quit and stay an X smoker...

I have been a X smoker for 14 months now.

I quite smoking by starting to dip.......lol.

Then I started smoking again and quite by just laying it down....

Was good for about a month, then started dipping again.....

Dipped for probably 2 years, when my son was born about a year ago I realized how important it was for me to be around as long as possible (and I am at high risk for cancer)

I threw what I had out, cold turkey.....and have never, ever looked back. That was a year ago.

^^ Good for you! We all know how hard it is to quit dipping and smoking and what it is doing to our health! I quit because I started to have chest pains and I kid you not I felt like I was having a heart attack. Had a heart cath done I do have a 50% blockage but the good old cigs were constricting my arteries so bad in my heart that it started to go into spasms (no blood or oxygen) and I had terrible terrible chest pains.... I started to have them almost one time a week.

As time went on it appeared that no matter how much I smoked I wanted more and more and more of them.... then the chest pains and I said to myself... I am going to kill myself if I keep this up! So I told my husband the night before my neck surgery that I was quitting smoking and he started to laugh.... but never started back up since that night.

I don't smoke but many of my friends do I just don't get it because they're all having trouble caused by smoking and they still smoke. I tell them huge tobacco companies gain profit and you only gain health problems and they laugh at me.

I've never smoked. Never even tried it. I lived with my dad smoking until I moved out after highschool and that's been 17 years. I can not stand the sight smell or look of cigarettes. I hate it when I'm behind someone at the light and they blow it out their window and I get a car full of smoke. Pisses me off to no end. It's just disgusting. Smells soo bad yellow teeth wrinkles, it's worse than cancer. I was so glad when I lived in Arizona and the city actually banned it outside on the street. So many people complained. But they didn't have a leg to stand on. What blows my mind is all of the kids, knowing what we know about it today, coming out of highschool that smoke. It's amazing. I was active duty Airforce just earlier this year and we would get so many brand new kids out of basic training fresh out of highschool and it seemed like half of them smoked. Amazing! Worse when they go out and take smoke breaks and come back into the office and the entire place just wreaks of smoke from 3 people. Worst habbit ever!

I have tried many times (smoked for 20+ years now) - I don't seem to have the will power to succeed.

I started smoking cigarettes when I was 11.

    I quit smoking when I was 18:

    Because
    - I was smoking a pack a day, and spending $5 a day on cigarettes. Thats a lot for a kid without too much cash flow. Also, the first time I had a coughing fit in the shower and coughed up black tar set me over the edge. That craps nasty!

How - Honestly, I started smoking more weed for a little bit. Not that I advocate the use of an illegal substance for anyone else. But, this helped me with 2 things: 1) the burning sensation felt in the lungs is part of what I enjoyed the most about it, 2) Oral fixation is taken care of, just not as many times a day as it once had been. Essentially, I just kept at it and stayed away from friends that smoked and stayed away from booze for a while.

Side-effects - Unlike most, I used my frustration to work out with, so I started hitting the gym more and actually lost weight. I lost brain cells with my ulterior activities, which in-turn effected my short term memory. The headaches were unbearable for about 3 months. Luckily I had supportive people in my life that helped me get through it!

I've been cigarette free for about 4 years now and see no reason to go back!

I'm 30 and started smoking when I was about 15. I've been smoking on and off ever since.
I wan't to give up for health rather than money reasons. But all my focus is spent on giving up my rather large cocaine habit!!!
