HDTV's, Yo!
Alright, MMi... I'm looking for a TV for school that will last me a while and be an investment of sorts.
On said TV, I'm looking for 40"-50", will play games at a respectable level without lag, must be 1080p and has some HDMI/VGA inputs.
This being said, what would you recommend? I've done some research and it looks like Plasma is the way to go for those qualifications, but I just wanted to see if any of you who knew your stuff had a different suggestion, so if you have any good input it'll be appreciated.
Go!Respect your elders.

LCD last longer but Plasma looks better for gaming. 1080p@24hz FTW

If you want a built in heater with your tv, and burn in images within a month or so go with a plasma.
LCD ftw!!!
recommend a samsung

Huh, everyone seems to like Samsungs; I'm surprised on all the hate for Plasmas though... Thanks for the input, guys.

Shows you have a plasma
lol compared to lcds those things get freakin hot go in the stores and check them out yourself, although in the stores might not feel as hot because not in a room
but about burn in old ones do have higher chance but still happens in new ones...if not burn in the whole image retention where you change scenes and a still image is left visible for a while thats jus the way they areLast edited by bobright; 08-18-2009 at 04:32 PM.

I actually have both and prefer my plazma. And no, the new plazma do not have burn in. The only major difference between the two is:
LCD's are brighter&have higher contrast, better for brighter rooms, but have some motion blur (depending on model)
Plazma's have deeper, more 3D looking picture/color. Better for movie watching

I'm not gonna say they don't burn in or not, BUT I have a plasma and have had it for a little longer than a year and there's not the slightest hint of a burn in. Also, the heat is present in mine but it isn't so much that it bothers me. I do like the picture. I *think* it is a Samsung. If not, I'll edit my post in the morning. I'm too lazy to go check right now.Gamertag - Scikotic IT Guy

I went with a plasma too and have had it for two years with zero burn. I want to say that mine has a 'screensaver' just in case.

II think a DLP type TV would be most cost effective. I play my PS3 on a 60" Sony 1080p DLP and love it to death! There is no lag at all.. no blur.. it's awesome.

Plasma actually last longer now on decent makes. 100k hours plasma, 60k LCD. Plasma is better at everything trust me. Whoever says LCD is better never had a good plasma. Ps I'm the manager of a Panasonic store in uk. I currently have 2 plasma and 2 LCD. 1 plasma is from 2002 and still going strong other from 2008 and is supurb. My main LCD is a monitor with 3millisecond response time and my plasma kills it on motion. Just dnt buy anything cheap.
Oh and I don't even have to pay for my tv I done a few tests on our new 42 LCD and and same spec plasma. Plasma ftwLast edited by se23; 08-19-2009 at 12:26 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Thanks everyone. I ended up going with a 42" Olevia 1080P...
Looks pretty indecent with standard coax cable, but that should be fixed soon enough. $599 refurbished.
Looks sick with my Mac hooked up to it, too.
