Default what to purchase at best buy?

I got a $100 gift card for best buy and i'm wanting to upgrade my laptop. I think i have narrowed it down to a few choices.

    1: 500GB hard drive, only have a 160GB now
    2: More ram, I have 2GB
3: Windows 7, running vista now

What do you think i would benefit from the most? I would like to dual/ triple boot some different operating systems, i don't do any gaming or anything that i would really need more ram for i dont think but it would be nice to have, and i have vista now which i don't really have a problem with but i would like to have windows 7 seeing some of the demos of it.

I have a dell xps M1530 160GB HD 2GB RAM Intel core 2 duo Vista 32 bit.... If you are recommending the hard drive throw a brand name out there for me because i have read a few bad reviews for a some of the 500GB hard drives. Thanks for any help

I'd say it would be Mac>Ram>HD>Death>Windows.

Yeah I second what this guy said. My advice is buy the ram and an HD if at all possible. If you want 7 try getting the RC from Microsoft. Not sure if they're still offering it but if you do get it you'll have it for free till next March.

Like StealthBravo, 500 GB WD Scorpio Blue ftw.

And don't ever buy an OS. Eesh.

As far as double/triple booting, look up iDeneb (hackint0sh).

I'd love to hear the argument for this idiotic point of view. The core of any computer, the one thing you need for the computer to even work, the foundation of everything you do... and you're going to steal it?

I'm a helpful jerk, fear me.

^^^ That or he may be referring to just buying a new computer because they are disposable these days. Last I checked, the new iPhone without a contract costs as much as a decent lap top (I say decent sparingly of coarse, nothing that the majority of techies would be looking for).

Yeah, and it's always best to buy an OS for which a laptop is made, make sure hardware is running 100% like it was intended to (Unless if you're running vista, in which case the percentage is more or less 17%). That's one reason I love my mac, runs OSX perfectly, cuz the laptop and the OS were literally made for each other, and runs Windows XP Pro SP3 rather seamlessly using Parallels Desktop.

Oh god I never thought I'd see the day a computer is "disposable". If I'm buying a computer, I make sure what I get lasts me a good 3-4 years if possible (laptop), and if it's a desktop I build it myself so I can gradually upgrade it as the need arise. And actually you do have a point if you compare a non-contract iPhone vs an ultra-portable netbook.

    But still.

^^^I feel you. However, I've consistently gotten a new computer with the release of new OS's (of coarse I've skipped a few, like Win Millennium...). It would be awesome if my computer stayed current for years even with upgrades! Unfortunately, with the advancements in technology in todays market, it seems as though a computer is outdated the moment you buy it.

Imagine how I felt when I got my new 2000 dollar macbook pro the week before Apple doubled the battery life and upped the processor and HD.

That is my argument. If its time for a new OS of the same brand(?)... its time for a whole new upgrade. Although, I do not consider a computer "disposable" and if you do, I could use one as extra parts. Wanna donate?
