Fallow Up:
So, as the days went by we continued our little texts (Kinda cute, but got old). One night, she invited me to a party and asked me to buy beer. I respectfully declined. (If I know the kid and have certified them "responsible", I don't have a problem. But some chick that I barely know and that could possibly be using me for booze? Homey don't play that!)
A day or 2 later, I invited her out to the lake to go swimming, which is when she told me that she "cant go anywhere without [her] parents permission." (It seemed odd that she could party, but not swim. Lier? I think so.) Then I wanted to meet her at Starbucks, buy her a cup of coffee, and tell her that it wasn't going to work out. (I hate breaking girls hearts via phone or internet. It's so impersonal!) So, she told me to let her know when I was leaving my house, so I did. But being myself, I said, "I'm gonna make like a stoner and roll this joint!" She responded with "Haha, ok!" And she never showed up! (I gave her 15 mins, enjoyed my coffee and bailed. Eff that noise.)
So, she texts me later that night asking me why I never told her to leave her house. ("Umm, I did." But I guess... my attempt at being clever accidentally out witted her? Or am I the moron for getting stood up!?) So, I decoded my seemingly encrypted message for her, and she understood. "So, you thought I stood you up?!" Meh, drama and B/S.
Fast forward a couple of days (yesterday): For some reason, I haven't given up on letting her down face to face. She calls me that morning and invites me to a BBQ at her parents house. In my morning stupor, I agree. She texts me that night and tells me to lie about my age (Seemed logical with a James Bondish appeal! Secretive!)
So today, I get off work, go home, shower, and begin to get ready for this event. I began thinking about myself through the eyes of her father. How creepy would I seem to him!? And I also began to think about the advice you fine folks gave me. This got awfully complicated didn't it!? WTF am I doing?! Am I seriously going to lie to her parents about my age? Eff this noise!
So I text her and tell her that, "I can't do this anymore," and how "I don't feel like I want to be in the position to lie to [her] parents, or anyone for that matter."
Her response? "Gaaaaaay!"
Shes partially right for a few reasons. One, I should have never agreed to attend this soirée. Two, from her perspective, she thinks I don't have balls. And three, I should have been an adult and told her I wasn't feeling it, much sooner than I did too.
I picked a very bad time to break it to her. For that I am an @$$hole, and I know it. Now I've realized how immature I can be too: for not saying "no" when I should have and for having an extremely poor sense of timing on the let down.
To tell you the truth, I feel pretty good about my decision, even though it feels lame at the same time.
What do you think MMI'ers? Did I do the "mature" thing, or am I "Gaaaaaay"?

You know? Put bluntly. 17 is too young. There are all kinds of things I didn't foresee being problems. Also, perhaps I'm a little immature myself for thinking that it was okay. I suppose it was a good experience to have. At least now I never have to wonder what that was like!

Sometimes getting out before it's too late is the best option, even if it's a bit messy. It's better in the long run. It sounds like she is still a young girl when it comes to life experience. You certainly tried to do the right thing. She wants to do things on her terms, but can't even met you for coffee? I think you did right. Now, imagine if she ever fond out about this thread?
LOL
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

You actually sound very mature in your thought process, especially considering het dads point if view. Perhaps you could have told her sooner, perhaps not. I think it wad better to do what you did Than to go through with lying to her parents. Good for you.

You did the right thing... don't sweat it.
I have been there (damn, it's been over 15 years now), where I was in college, met a girl still in HS, etc etc etc... long story short, things got odd quick (and not just because I was terrible at dating ;-) )... anyway, you lived and learned... move on. Let that "memory" be just that and a lesson learned. Stick with gals at least in college. You'll be happier in the long run and a lot less stressed.

I totally thought about this too! That would suck pretty hard!
Lucky for me, I don't think she is very tech savvy!
Thanks! I really do appreciate that!
Truer words have not been spoken on behalf of college men everywhere. Thanks for your reply! Also...WHY HASN'T SOMEBODY WRITTEN A MANUAL FOR THIS YET!?
