My son and I got cut off entering a highway today and while trying to avoid one crash we got hit by a semi. Thanks to his skill we both walked out and no other vehicles were involved. The truck clipped us and we shot across three lanes and bounced off the center guard rail and spun around 180 degrees and bounced again off the guardrail. The irony is that we were on our way to go look at a car for sale to replace this one.

We're both fine other than the glass shrapnel wounds I have all over my legs. A testament to wearing your seatbelts.

    And the semi---

What will happen now? Who's going to be responsible for paying for all that damage?

Well the car is 13 years old with 180,000 miles so its not worth "that" much. We dont have collision insurance only liability so if its determined to be our fault we get nothing. I reported the claim and was told that it sounds liek we are NOT at fault since it was the other drivers front that hit us, in wich case, the trucker's insurance will pay. This is a total and if this holds when the adjuster looks at it, welll probably get more for it than we would have selling it. It had a couple of fairly expensive repairs looming- a new catalytic converter, a new timing belt, new fuel sender, which is why we were going to sell it. At best we would have gotten $2,000 for it but book value is anywhere from $2,000-4000.

Wowwie Zowwie, thank your lucky stars girl. I guess it says something about Audi too.
Is that your axle shaft/tire sitting there too?
Thank God you and your son are OK, surely a bit shook up.

Yeah, we're fine. My son just went out with a friend and I just have a bunch of cuts on my legs from broken glass.

I'm actually going to instruct at a teen car control clinic tomorrow as I do about 2 or 3 times a year. I attribute the skills my son learned at a similar class to keeping us from careening all over the place.

Blkcadi yes the Audi is tough and yes, that is the axle from the driver front.
Surprisingly I'm calm as I went into track instructor mode the minute the crap hit the fan. I think I was too busy analyzing what happened to get emotional. I see wrecks at the track enough and no one ever seriuosly hurt, at least when I've been there. It's amazing how a stock 3 point seat belt protects you. I've seen rollovers where the people were unscathed because they had seatbelts on.

My cuts are a bit annoying They are on the sides and back of my thighs (I was wearing shorts) and I have a bit of a headache, but I've been nursing a migraine all week. I don't want to take anything so I don't mask any potential after effect symptoms, but I didn't impact with anything. The car absorbed most of the shock energy. We were surprisingly only mildly jostled. Bless the poor little Audi that gave it's life to save ours.
I am tired and need sleepy time since I have to get up at 6:30.

Thanks. It was good for like twenty minutes. Once it hit land, it pretty much died out.
