USB Device Not Recognized
My laptop, running 64-bit Vista Home Premium, has stopped recognizing ANY USB device. I've tried System Restore, turning off the laptop and unplugging the power, and uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers. Can any of you think of a way to fix this?

Get a Mac?
Or...
1. Unplug your PC.
2. Unplug all your USB devices from your PC.
3. Wait 30 minutes or more.
4. Plug in your essential USB devices (keyboard, mouse).
5. Plug in your PC, turn it on.
6. Pop in the rest of your USB devices.Respect your elders.

When I had that problem, I had to disable the UAC and it worked.

I finally got this fixed. I had to boot into safe mode and uninstall the Human Interface drivers and all the USB controller drivers. It's called restacking drivers or something like that.

tried that and it didn't work. Problem still exists.
Mine seems kind of odd. I used a Griffin iPhone/iPod cable & got the "USB Device Not Recognized" text but then I switched to the Apple iPhone/iPod cable & it was recognized. But the problem is not entirely solved. The iPhone claims it has been charged (battery with plug icon) but it is clearly not fully charged as the battery icon on the lockscreen shows it not charged.
Any solutions?
Thanks.

You should probably try not to use anything other than the Apple licensed or approved products to charge your Apple products. Reason being is that Apple puts in a limiter which when your product finishes charging it stops putting out extra voltage to your product which could be harmful to your battery. So this could be throwing off the status of the battery. That being said the resolution to your issue would probably be to drain the life out of the battery and charge for 24 hours with a Apple licensed charger, and if at all possible keep the device turned off while doing so.

I'd like to try reinstalling the iPhone drivers. How do I go about doing that?
Here's my situation:
Use Griffin cable on laptop - USB Device Not Recognized message on laptop
Use Apple cable on laptop - iPhone recognized, recognized in iTunes, but charges for like a couple of seconds at most & shows on iPhone battery indicator (status bar) that it is charged, but iTunes & the iPhone lockscreen battery indicators show it is not charging at all.
Use Apple/Griffin cable on Apple iPhone wall charger - works immediately & fine
Use Apple/Griffin cable on Griffin iPhone/iPod wall charger - doesn't respond at all.
Screenshot showing the situation in iTunes:

______
I am trying the cable which came with the iPhone (2G) which is essentially the new generation Apple cables. So far so good, but I'm not saying problem solved as yet, as it charged last night with the old generation Apple cable, which I left overnight & by this morning even though it was 'charging' it was at 1/2 life.Last edited by SRASC; 05-10-2009 at 07:15 AM.
