I sold an iphone to someone in the US. He paid immediately, but Paypal wouldn't let me access the money until he received it or gave me positive feedback(wtf?). Buyer said there was a problem with the item and sent me a complaint/also disputed item description via PayPal. To call his bluff, I said if he put the item on ebay/describing what the problem was exactly, I will make up the cost difference. He ignored that and PayPal sided with him, taking money out of my account and giving it to him. I received a broken iphone in the mail(not what I sent). I've appealed with PayPal, but haven't heard back.
The whole time, PayPal was seemingly siding with the Buyer, despite my claims that something didn't seem right. I'm done with them and Ebay.

me too, nothing outside the US seems to be legit, except canada and the UK, but there's no way to pick certain countries to sell to, other than the USA
and on another note, i HATE that paypal is the only way to recieve and pay through ebay. it takes money off the top of everything, charging fees everywhere, and takes forever to do anything. it's no wonder paypal is owned by ebay.Last edited by smuth; 02-04-2009 at 01:00 PM.

What's wrong with paypal: They go after the seller instead of the buyer

I have had a couple of issues with PayPal. I was sold a website backup/domain for $250. Immediatly transferred the funds into my bank account. The buyer disputed. They set my account to negative. I tried to fight it and send information for the sale, but it was never enough. I ended just leaving the account the way it was and opened a new one under a different bank account.
On a different note, I've used eBay/Paypal for well over 200 transactions and most of them have been good.
I think members need to quit blaming PayPal and put the blame on themselves sometimes. I mean does an eBay member with no feedback that just joined the site look reliable to you? Does a seller with 2 transactions one of which is negative selling a $1,000 item look reliable? I'm just saying that as a buyer you need to do your research and make sure your dealing with a reliable source. And as a seller, if your worried about a transaction, set up the action that way. Do money orders only or only ship within the US. Withdrawl your money as SOON as you get it from PayPal and keep ALL your documentation. Make folders within your e-mail inbox and just save everything.
Following those guidelines I have not come accross many issues.

Yeah when you are selling items on eBay I think you can put reserve not met in case you think you're going to get stiffed you can withdraw from a won auction and not sell it to him. I think the negative balance occurs because you didn't set up backup funding.
What I did is I set up backup funding to link to my bank account. So lets I have 60 bucks in my paypal account and PAYPAL withdraws 100 dollars it'll just take $40 out of my bank account. I think that's why it was negative. Did I just make an sense?Android user suffering from iPhone withdraw.

Basically the same thing just happened to me. Once he made payment he started hounding me with emails, I shipped it and sent him the tracking info, then a shipping dispute popped up, I provided the tracking and it was closed and then a couple days later I get an item not as described dispute, the whole time this dude is demanding me to give a partial refund saying the phone wasnt unlocked, when I unlocked the thing before I sent it. Well paypal never gave me a chance to make a statement and decided it in his favor, I received the phone today and something is wrong with it, it lights up all weird colors and it appears to of been pried at the bottom. I called to appeal it and try to figure out why I never even got to give a statement or provide these emails from him to begin with and they went on to say they went by the auction description and what the buyer said, I was like yeah but I had evidence to provide. I ended up getting sent to a supervisor who was less help than the original person and basically told me there was nothing I could of said or provided to have it decided in my favor anyways and that they dont take emails as evidence.
They really gave me no support or help at all and basically decided with the buyer, I appealed it and am waiting on what I need to do next. I will no longer use paypal or ebay after this, you are totally unsafe as a buyer. If I helped you dont be afraid to click thanks
