problems with home button

Hi

anybody having problems with the home button? i press it and it doesnt show the home screen. sometimes i have to press real hard to get the home screen up and at other times everything seems to be working fine. i just wondered if someone else experienced similar problems with their home button. is this a hardware or software problem? anyone?

My iPhone just developed the same problem but it is an always, not a sometimes, issue. I have to press about 3x as hard as I used to to get it to work.
