I recently had some pixels burn out on my 1st gen iphone. It was pwnd with tons of apps, cracked appstore apps, custom icons and backgrounds.

I didn't have time to get home to restore my iphone to stock before I went in to the apple store for my appointment with the "genius". I showed him my phone, and he saw the burnt out pixels. He also noticed my slick icons and background. I told him it was some app from the appstore that I used to customize everything!

Lol, I even had custom carrier text thanks to make it mine!

The moron believed me and swapped my phone out for a new one. Too bad I couldn't convince him to give me a 3g!

Actually, he was probably just being nice (customer service - smile, instead of calling you a liar).

Since it was a "hardware" malfunction they will work with you. I had an Iphone fry on me, took it in with my hacked apps, summerboard theme and all. The "genius" told me it looked cool and it voids the warranty then......gave me a new one because being a hardware issue, my "software" hacking didnt break it.

Same happened to me last week, my iPhone got a short somehow and wouldnt turn on, since they couldnt turn it on, they didnt know that I unlocked it, but they did ask for my AT&T phone number, I told them I didnt have one, and they just looked at me funny. Then gave me a new one.

Well before i sold my 3g last week i went to the apple store and did not restore it my self,i hid all the icons with boss prefs and even left the theme in the backround and they changed it for me.

It's my dream that people will stop trying to be clever by tossing quotes around "genius" or "genius bar" when they're unhappy with their GB experience. You're the latest in an extremely long line of folks who brought that little jokey-joke to us.

It's like all those DJs playing "1999" by Prince dozens of times every week leading up to 2000 - a complete lack of originality that's obvious to all. And funny to none.

Unlike jwcrash, I dont really care about your jokes, but whether your phone is hacked or not, if the issue is hardware related, they usually wont care. No biggie...

yeah I can honestly say that every person that works at the genius bar is really a genius when it comes to apple products. Not like winhoes where they tell u to do random crap and pray to your god that it works

how'bout them Geek Squad from BestBuy...are they gonna be Geniuses when it comes to iphone?..now that they start selling the iphones. Then again BestBuy return/exchange policy is pretty strict.
