My son leaves on Thursday. He's our first to go off.
Good luck to you.

my son is majoring in history. He thinks he wants to teach high school.
My youngest is just starting high school, and the middle son will be graduating next spring.

And as someone who just graduated and will be joining the work force starting this Monday, here's a little something for the freshmen:
Be social, make friends ASAP. Even if you might not be very social now, chances are few to no one know who the hell you are. Use that to your advantage, it's a clean slate and a new beginning with hundreds of other people. Have fun, join clubs, go to class (seriously, keeping a good GPA will save you months of grief trying to get to a good Masters/Job), and generally try to have a good time.
College gave me some of the best years of my life so far, I'd totally do it again if I could.

Personally I thought College was overrated, in terms of finding a gf there most of the girls are either taken early or in long term, stable, long distance relationships. In terms of partying it aint exactly American Pie Beta House. I also found there were a lot of 'fakes' at the start of college as people start reinventing themselves trying to make themselves look cool when they clearly weren't at High School.
Nevertheless college for me was still good, just be yourself and dont expect everynight is party night and you will get the best out of college.
