With the release of the recent 1.1.3 jailbreak I've had a couple of simple questions regarding the process. I would usually read the thread and search the forums for an answer. In the last 18 hours though, there have been 45 pages of replies to the jailbreak 1.1.3 thread! I cant keep up!
This gave me an idea for a new subforum of MMI. A 'VIP' type section that can be viewed by all but only posted to by members who...
- Have been a member for 'X' amount of time and/or
- Have a certain post count and/or
- Have gotten an invite to the VIP forum and/or
- Have 'X' amount of "thanks" and/or
- well, you get the idea...
This IMHO would end up being a great dynamic knowledge base for new users and an efficient way for seasoned users to get answers.
I don't know if this is even possible on a vBulletin board so dont flame me if I'm way off. Just an idea stemmed from frustration.

I don't like the idea. To me it would lead to elitisim, which is on every board, but this certainly doesn't help. I just don't buy the 'post count = better member idea.' I'm a member of a few boards and there are quite a few people who have a high post count yet don't contribute as much as other members that have lower post counts.
As for the 'thanks' count. I'm not sure I buy that either. I have been thanked a fair amount of time but I don't really contribute as much as others, in my own eyes. Sure I make a few graphics here and there but as far as jailbreaking goes...not much from me.
The knowledge base is the wiki. That's the purpose of it. Sure I don't like cluttered threads but there are times when a noob posts something or asks a questions that really helped me.
I like the knowledge free flowing. I can ignore a few useless posts by not reading them.

Sounds dumb. You have to understand that when things like this happen, people will make billions of threads etc. Just post a question IN one of the highest posted threads and it WILL get replied upon.
Or just wait a few days or a day and post. I just wait till night when all the noobs went to bed.

Elitism, agreed, is not a desirable thing. But if the alternative is chaos, I'd be happy to deal with a few big heads...

I like the idea, but I'm not sure who will be the right person to determine the "VIPs". I have very few posts because I chose to read a lot instead of post every little question I have. Although I find that the questions from some noobs yeild answers that do help me from time to time. I agree that there are way to many posts and it can get tiresome reading through them all.
Maybe a better way to do it is to have stricter rules about how specific the title of posts are, and how specific the posts themselves are.
Just my 2 cents.2.2 pwned!!

lets just smite all the stupid people."Somebody turn on the lights...its getting little to dark in here...I can't see you...when I'm dreaming...I can't see you....I can't see you..."

I would say the idea of a VIP area would be the equal of the guides section.
Now if only we could get the new people to read those things first.

Would be a good addition, i like it!

I think we should charge money.
Post count = SPAM.
And maybe like $5, and you can get exclusive content and what not. It will help us maintain and improve the already great MMiProud MMi Retired Moderator.
