My friend needs help...Bad.
His computer randomly got a virus, nothing too serious.
The virus isnt what im worrying about.
His computer ( its a PC ) overheats BADLY.
From the moment he turns it on, its getting really hot.
Ive heard of a program that allowes you to control your fan speed?
Remember, he is using PC, so yea.
But Ill take care of the virus.
Hopefully you guys can help us out with the overheating part.
Try to give us suggestions that dont need hardware replacement.
Anything like programs are alot of help.
We will replace hardware if we have too, so feel free to not hold back all of your knowledge. Your input is greatly appreciated by him and me.HAVE I HELPED YOU? Thank me!

The controlling of fan speed depends on the motherboard in the computer. If the option is given to manage fan speed it is(via BIOS or desktop), if its not given- no way AFAIK.
But anyway, I had a PC before my Mac and my PC was getting very hot very fast too...
BTT: You could:
1.)Buy a new motherboard and fan.
2.)Buy a bigger tower that the air inside can circulate better.
3.)Open the PC for better air circulation.
4.)If nothing helps- buy a Mac ;-)
Hope that helps. If I could help you with my answer give me a

Most new motherboards allow you to control speeds in your BIOS; in fact within Windows I can control my fan speeds directly and instantly with ASUS PC Probe II (if you don't have an ASUS motherboard, don't bother)
The CPU is what gets hottest the fastest, so the fan speed for that should be all the way up.
Try and make sure there is decent air circulation inside your case.
If all else fails, buy a newer, more efficient CPU, a bigger fan and heatsink, or liquid cooling. the latter may be expensive, but not as expensive as buying a Mac

My laptop has the same problem but it could also harm the battery so i would keep the battery out as much as you can, but the only thing i really do to help is to keep it on a hard flat surface so it cant vent easier.

the problem cud just be the virus itself over-running ur CPU. maybe its removal wud probably bring it back to normal. last month my cousins PC had a similar problem. the virus was utilizing the CPU & RAM at 100% which in turn was max'ing the fan speed making the whole PC make a lot of noise and heat. removal of the virus (actually formatting the drive) returned everything back to normal.

Yeah it could be what saifeeb says. If that's the case, remove the virus asap.

Yes, check inside a task manager to look at the CPU load, it's a higher normal when idle, it may be the virus overheating your CPU. If that fails, get a Mac.

Why do people always say that around here?
I have a 1 year old Macbook that is such a piece of junk, Apple gave me the 3 year Applecare plan for nothing.
2 logic boards, a CPU fan, and the charging port quit working, in 11 months.
My PC sits on a desk, on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the things works every time I sit down in front of it. More then I can say for the Mac i own.

A lot of real good advice but I want to add something........ where is he keeping the computer? My daughter used to use her laptop on her pillow...... got real hot, we had a desktop in a cabinet and the tower was in a tight spot..... got real hot. if it is a laptop consider one of those laptop cooler pad things they work well too. just thought I would though that out as well, as it could be another problem besides hardware probably not but hey could be

Let's see...
Erm, when he referred to the term "MacBook and Applecare" in the same sentence, I think he was talking about an Apple product
Ouch, seems to me like that phrase turned around and bit you.Seriously dude, think before you post.
Anyway do tell us of your friend's PC. Oh just a reminder, seeing as your very deep in the Mac world and probably don't know any better- Norton Antivirus is not a good tool to use!
Atokadd, I hope you know I'm joking with ya lol

You could just open up his computer and put a fan next to it and that will provide terrific air circulation for minimal cost (or you can just try and remove the virus)
