it's a CECT P168 iFone. It looks just like the iPHone. I think it's from China - i got it as a xmas gift

unfortunately, i don't think u'll find any info for that in these forums because these forums are for the real deal...
there's no telling what type of software that phone is running on so the same methods used on the real iphone may/may not apply to the knockoff version that you have.
best bet right now would be to keep searching google to see if anyone has a similar phone and got it working on a US network.

Maybe it's locked? Not too many people know about the CECT P168 here. Not that similar to the iPhone. Lol.

Ya, unfortunately you're in the wrong place. Might as well have a Nokia E62, we just can't help with non-iphones....Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

Unlocked Tri-band Phone (900/1800/1900 Mhz) for World GSM Support
ATT mostly uses 850Mhz, good luck getting signal..

^^^Agreed. There are some quad band versions out there as well. It might be possible that he has defective phone/hardware issue. Who knows what QC is like on those knock offs.Apples taste good.

Who would get you a fake iphone!?

I have a P168 as well, for a gift. Works rather well, but not much customization as far as upgrades and programs goes.
Mine is the P168+ (upgrade to the triband. Quadband version with touch flow).
Well I think the problem is that the phone is set to the wrong frequency. You have to put a code in (as if you were dialing an actual phone number) it should take you to the advance settings menu. from there you make you way to network and change to auto.
As far as the code its *#3646633#

The fake iphone runs off of WM6 so you need to be in a pocket pc or smart phone forum.
The one that will help you best is vanilla in color, comes up within the first couple hits for smartphone on google.
Found it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/
