MMi should just get larger considering that the pool of iPhone users will be growing with the drastically lower device cost.

MMi is here to supply the community with things Apple is willing, or didn't allow to do. You will find many great apps on installer/cydia that won't be on Appstore. That will be a big plus to this community. Themeing, and much much more will be available for the hacking community. Thus letting us show of to those who didn't hack theirs.

Bottom line, there are too many restrictions on apps for the App Store, so people will have to jailbreak to get their favorite apps. Hopefully developers will have free apps on Installer and if they choose to charge it would only be through App Store...

Devs can throw free apps on the App Store too.

I'm a helpful jerk, fear me.

Aside from free apps in the app store, According to Jobs keynote about 2.0 apps could be added without using it. Or That's how I heard it anyway. There's a part where they talk about companies who want to write an app just for their employees to use and it can be shared only amongst the employees.

Just through iTunes? or will there be an installer type app aside from the App store from Apple?

No idea, heck maybe even just emailing it to the phone and installing it from the email. *shrug*.

Edit: I just looked back at the keynote. If you want to watch that part, Steve starts talking about it at about 1:04:45. We'll have to wait for it to come out I guess to see how it works, but it seems like you could work around it some how.

Yeah dudes this is simple numbers - more apps either paid or free, 3G=more data, more support for corporate world and all that means more and more iPhones. More iPhones means more users - more users means more people in the MMi community.

It will change here and there but the sure thing is it will GROW not go away. Where do you think all these modders and arm-chair-modders (like me) are gonna go... the Apple Forums?!?

    Puhlease. Shyeah.

    Bottom line: MMi FTW.

    Simple as that.

Apple will never be able to provide us with the same experience that MMi does.
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!

@editwizard - that's my thoughts as well. The bottom line is there's going to be so many more iPhone users, and we're constantly looking for ways to improve the MMi experience.

    Stick around - we are.

MMi will definitely be around for a while and it will continue to grow. Apple isn't gonna provide us with SwirlMMS or customize. Those two enough will get me to jailbreak my phone. But I agree with Zeal. Apps are too expensive.

Exactly, i'm not paying $200 for the exact same thing I have now, with the addition of 3G which is nowhere near me, oh and it's shinier.

I'll stick with my 100% customized to my taste, for free, perfectly good, iPhone+Installer

No disrespect to the 3G iPhone, I just think it's worthless, unless you REALLY need 3G. I myself have a Wi-Fi connected Home and Work, so I don't ever see myself needing 3G, even if it was available, especially not for $200 more.

Well I don't think I really need 3G, but I sure could've used the GPS a few days ago when Google's directions got my lost while I was ironically replacing my broken iPhone.

I think MMi will be in our lives for looong time, since we have mind free we always will want to improbe our iPhone beyond Apple can offer to us, I think that the most people in MMi community (including myself) are here for the tendency to want more that we already have, we're not common people folks, we couldn't stand to have just 17 icons in one page, and we're not gonna stand having just one applications source (App Store), besides that as others have said, App Store will not have SummerBoard nor Customize, and speaking with the truth Who wants the iPhone with stock icons forever?.
And I'm sure that if one day all the great devs we have in this community and the others outside stop to mod and hack the iPhone, the most of us will still do it by ourself (although we don't have all the acknowledge, we will have SSH). So, people don't be afraid MMi will be alive while you want to mod, hack, theme, do and undo with your iPhone. That's just my humble opinion, and hopefully I'd love not to be wrong.

I don't see any reason not to jailbreak - AppStore and Cydia and modding can all co-exist peacefully.
