MAC OS X on PC AMD SSE3 PLEASE HELP!

i have a friend with a laptop, it has an amd processor that supports sse3. it only has 1gb of ram so rather than dual boot and share the ram i would like to just clean install os x over the top of xp.

can anyone point me in the right direction (without links) as there is such a mixed amount of information online about this...

any good guides or names i should look out for on certain sites?

UPDATE:
is JaS going in the right direction?

i dont want to dual boot, i want to delete xp and rewrite the whole HD for mac os x

ive only done intel pcs and havent messed with amd since their downfall. its fairly difficult because of drivers and not really worth it in the end. ill see if i can find something to help you.

there are modded leopard dvds out there with the necessary files to get going.

AMD's work as well. Here is what I reccomend. Kalyway 10.5.2 disk. You can fin it on the bay.

And if you dont want to dual boot then when your in the mac os installer after you burned it to a DVD and booted to it, Go into disk utility and format the harddrive. For an amd and stability reasons I would format it using an MBR partition scheme. If you have any other questions about it you can pm me.

thanks man, if you look at:

profit42.com - the ultimate hackers lounge » Blog Archive » OSX 10.4.8 on a normal Intel/AMD computer

(no links to illegal sites included mods, check if you dont believe me!)

seems simple enough, devote the whole hard drive to os x, got the jas 10.4.8 patched file on download, i guess its just getting the hardware to run with the right drivers which is the hard bit....

although i say its simple ... many people are having problems.

i mean, if i install and the graphics card isnt supported, will just get a black screen

let me know if you can find anything that i need to know or can help me with drivers and that, my mate wants this to be as short as possible and i know things like this can take hours, sometimes days....

Give me the specs on the lappy, also you dont want to go with 10.4, go with a 10.5.2 install disk.

ok, the specs i can gather from my friend:

packard bell NEC version 5500000001

machine type- AT/AT compatible

video processor is ATI Radeon Xpress 200M series (0x5955)

is this enough info to tell me whether the kalyway 10.5.2 dvd will work without extra drivers or where and how to install the extra drivers?

i am looking at the dvd at a demon of a site, if you get me

For the AMD there is a distro called:
Zephyroth. I have not used this personally and it seems to be in the alpha stages.

I HAVE used iAtkos 2.0 for intel based pc with zero problems..

If you want you can PM me and I will give a couple of links to some sites with lots of information... these sites can also be found using google

ok, his laptop is work in progress, seeing ho it goes

but

i am now trying it on me Acer Aspire T180 (standard specs but with 2 GB of ram instead of 1)

i installed it first time, 1 partition in Apple Partition format, checked kernels and options (cant remember them all now)

installation finished, restarted computer as told, then spinning wheel on grey apple screen then "please restart your computer by pressing power button" (same as you get on macs)

this was all with the disk in.

restarted again with disk in, tried to install leopard again, so turned off, took out disk, restarted and said "PLEASE INSERT BOOT DISK"

now restarted with disk trying to boot again, maybe try a different partition type (thinking MBR might fix it?!?!) but gets stuck on "still waiting for root device"

so boot in -f or -x and works past this point, but jams further on and cant get into the install now.

i have now got a computer with no operating system, and this hackintosh stuff is driving me nuts

Heh, just try and boot to the dvd, wipe the hd, format to mbr. apt is no good for x86 systems. need either mbr or guid. but go with mbr just for compatibility reasons.
