When I fist got my Samsung Blackjack, Richmond, VA didn't have 3G coverage, which sucked since the salesperson sold me that phone using the speed of 3G as his only real selling point. Eventually, we got 3G here, just in time for me to replace it with an iPhone. If I'm not in a Wi-Fi zone using the internet on the iPhone is painfully slow.

LOL. I am going to my local Swisscom shop to be the first iPhone owner. But I dunno the prices.

I'm not sure yet about camping out.

I want to, but I have Jury Duty that week. Also, when I bought the original iPhone, I went into an Apple store the day after launch, walked in, and got the 8GB on the spot. I may wait until that weekend to grab it.
