I bought mine a year or so ago, and I think there is a new one since then even. I think they introduced a couple new MacBook Pro's when the Air was announced and released. It would be hard to believe they are going to release anymore until at least next year, I don't think they new crop of Pro's are even 6 months old yet.

My guess is january, but no one knows for sure. In the summer apple usually has a promotion allowing college students to get a free ipod (and sometimes a printer too) as well as the student discount. I'd say anytime this summer would be a good time to shop.

BTW, good choice going to a community college. I just spent two years at one and will be transferring to UCLA in the fall. Keep your grades up and make sure that all your classes transfer to your dream university. Great way to save lots of money!!

Check out the MacRumors Buying Guide:

Mac Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy Your Mac, iPod or iPhone

It has the release history of Apple products and their recommendation. Apple usually releases new stuff annually so if you look at the MacBook you'll see the last update from Apple was in Feb 2008. I wouldn't think they'd have a new one by August (other the CPU bumps maybe) but you never know.

    Just buy it.
You can't go wrong with Mac, any MAC. And believe it or not it will not grow old within months (like PC) or even years. I bought my first iMAC 2 1/2 years ago and it still runs same as first day when I brought it home!

schneiderman must be a masochist for viruses

Tomer you can't go wrong with a mac. My son was using his 400MHZ iMac up until a few months ago when the power supply finally died. I was able to keep it up to date software wise because it had a firewire port, even though 10.3 and 10.4 wasn't supposed to be able to run on it. He got a "new" (to him at least) G5 imac a few weeks ago and it is running excellent. I am using a G4 PowerBook that's 5 years old and running 10.5 (latest OS) I can run all but the high end games that need BIG graphics cards.

Macs are easy to use and easy to upgrade plus they last a long time.
