Default Conver AC/DC External HD to a portable, USB powered HD?

hey everyone. i bought a nice 250gb external hd. its a 3.5 in. i was wondering, is there a way to convert it to run strictly off my mac. i dont care if it drains my battery, i only use it when my mac is plugged into the outlet. basically i have to connect my HD to an outlet to power it. i wanna power it all off my macbook pro. is this possible?

i dont think its possible with a hard drive that has to actually plug into a wall. 3.5in is a standered hard drive right? u can buy little hard drives that are usb powered tho. im actually lookin at one of those, because i have one i need to plug into wall and it sucks cuz i always need 2 outlets
