Hey there! My first post, coming to check this site out!
I've been trying to jailbreak my iPhone for awhile now, because I want to try out cydia..
My baseband is 05.16.05.
I've been doing some looking and it looks like I'm gonna have to downgrade then upgrade it up to an iPad baseband...
I'm not wanting to mess with that, I can't take a chance of the baseband messing up and me not being able to factory reset it.
Anyway of jail breaking it with keeping the current baseband/ iOS 5?

use redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jb. if you're on 5.0.1, you'll need to download a 5.0 firmware file and point redsn0w to that

Thank you for responding!
I'm sorry if this sounds noobish, but I've been searching and stuff.
Could someone help me with finding what I need to download?
Sorry, and thank you!

felixbruns is where I get my firmware ipsw's. just google iPhone firmware download, that should be the first hit. for redsnow, google dev team blog, and click redsnow beta. scroll down till you see a link for redsnow 0.9.9b8, and choose your os that should be it

just chuck your phone into dfu mode and point redsnow at the stock firmware of 5.0 that you'll need to download. to do that, in redsnow go to extras>select ipsw than browse for it. what exactly aren't you confident about?

that just means you've got a new bootrom 3GS, it's not bad, just means you can't achieve untethered jb atm

Okay.. I think I may of ****** myself..
So, the Jailbreak was successful.
Had to do the Just Boot option everytime I wanted to restart it.
I was playing around with it, and decided screw it.. It's not really what I wanted.
So, I unplugged my device from the computer & turned it off.
I started up iTunes, and plugged it in.
Threw the iPhone into DFU mode & restored it using iTunes. iTunes got to the point where it was done restoring & the iPhone was doing its final boot.. then iTunes crashed.
Now, I can't get iTunes to recognize the phone at all.
Thankfully, I backed up my contacts on to iCloud.. But as it is at the moment, I won't be able to add any more music.
Do you know of a fix?
Thank you! And sorry for this. :/
Hello there again,
I seem to have fixed my issue completely.
Uninstall of all apple software, and a reinstall did the trick
Thank you for all of your help with jailbreaking.
I was under the impression that you could get all of the Apple Store App's for free with Cydia.
I guess I was wrong, haha.
