I found out how to fix the problem.
1) go to phone and type in *5005*7672*xxxxxxxxxx# then the SMS service center numer
+12099042010 (West Coast)
+17045020600 (East Coast)
2) don't call, 1st save as a new contact and name it what you please
3) edit the contact and add a + sign in from of the SMS service center and resave
4) go to contacts and call the new number and receive the message
Hope this helps

Hi, I jail broke my phone using ILiberty, works great. However, I can't send or receive SMS, this SIM worked with my old Treo 650 for SMS. I tried the string you suggested but got a Setting Succeeded, Service Center Address, No Address reply then sent my self a text but did not receive it. Any suggestions?

My 3gs is unlocked and JB at 4.0.1 and when I turn it off and on again, it says No service or No Sim. Have to reboot several time, then i finally gets signal, but canīt send sms.
I did: *5005*7672*+86chinamobilenumber# and can now send again.
Waiting for the unlock to be able to upgrade!

In My case I am able to send SMS but only if I have included a subject. I have been relpying to someone I SMS with on a regular basis and only since this last week end have I had any problems. In my case I have just upgraded to iOS5. I tested sending the same SMS to the same recipient with and without a subject and only the the test with a subject worked. I thought that If I switched off the "Show subject field" This may resolve it, But it didn't. to turn on the subject line:-Settings> Messages > Show subject field ( I had previously set this to "on"). I can then see add a subject and send the SMS.
