I think this type of thing has more to do with how much free RAM you've got. Of course being on a faster device such as a 4S vs a 3GS would create a large difference in performance quality. It may help if you go into SBSettings, Processes, and Free Up Memory. Otherwise, I think you'd need improved hardware more than anything for better performance.

Don't forget safe mode, it can really tweak up your performance during a memory hogging game like Modern Combat. It actually makes all your games less laggy if you're jailbroken, so definetly use it if you need it.

No, that'll only worsen your performance. I was just saying IF you had a jailbroken device, that would be something you should try.

+1. If you jb it you'll probably end up with less free RAM bc of all the additional things that are added. Even if you don't install anything with Cydia.

So any recommendations or something to make sure the performance is always good on a not jailbroken devxe running 5.1.1 with 1.2gbs free that i can free up if needed

The amount of free flash storage space won't make any difference.
What's going to matter is the amount of free RAM, which you have rather little control over.
Don't install or run anything else besides the app in question, is really about all you can do. And if it's an older model of iPod (3G) enen that's not going to help much.

The best thing to do is get an iPad or iPhone. Essentially a hardware upgrade. But on that device you have, then what Raduga said.

If you aren't running anything else on your iPod (or not much else)
then you have as much free RAM as you're ever going to get,
and the performance is already maxed out.
The real problem is: the game was designed for iPhone 4s and iPad 3
and sucks on anything else
https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0
a lesser problem:
the most recent update (v1.3.0) ruined the control system,
added crash bugs and anti-warez protection for online play
(that seems to have blocked a slew of "legitimate" users as well)
so upgrading to an iPad 3 may not help either.Last edited by raduga; 08-24-2012 at 09:53 PM.
