Default Will the App Store ever have some standards?

There is so much JUNK on the App store that I'm wondering if the App store will ever have some standards for what they allow in their App store?

I always wonder how many great apps go unnoticed because there is so much junk you have to sift through now. It seems unless you are some major developer that your chances become more and more slim with all the junk that you can find in the app store.

I wish Apple would start cleaning house or come up with some sort of grading system to categorize apps. Kind of like normal games and indie games! But more in depth.

There has been times that I ran across a comment on the internet only by chance on a game that someone said is great. I never heard of it, it has very little reviews on it and when browsing I never found it. Tried it out and wondered how in the heck this app never got more attention??!!

    The sad thing is,
they DO have standards and enforce them, but they are internal guidelines they don't actually publish to the outside world. The published guidelines are somewhat vague and developers have difficulty understanding what Apple wants at times.

Worse though, Apple's main effort seems to be protecting themselves from any AppStore App being a threat to their own bottom line. Apps that improve on features Apple doesn't want improved get rejected for "duplicating features". At the same time, Apps that are a thousand useless clones of each other are published without any restriction.

Searching is ridiculously cumbersome, and the only reason I can think for it is that if they allowed reasonable user filters, users would be able to skip over to things they desire without exposure to the advertising content (all those undesirable apps). Making it hard to find desirable ones boosts sales of undesirable apps, and possibly boosts Apple's overall profit.

    .....
App developers have long asked Apple to clarify their standards, but haven't had a great deal of help with that. But the standards Apple DOES live by are not only confusing to devs, but even more so to ordinary consumers who get very lost very quickly, and have no recourse at all.

    sux.

if it helps any, I hear Android appstore is more lax than Apple on what they let through,
but has better categorizing and searching to balance that out.

I guess you'll have to look to third-party filtering solutions. Discovr Apps is a handy program, and Appshopper helps find trends.

My app purchases have leveled off, though. I don't need ten racing games, for instance. I like having just a couple of the best ones.

Anyway, this problem can only get worse. Soon they'll have a million apps.
