What is there, 300k plus apps in the app store now? How the hell are you supposed to keep track of whats what and what good?

I have LOUSY luck with search engines. I can never find what I look for, especially in a forum like board like this. Or on the AppStore.

Anyone have any suggestions on succesful seaches? For example, right now I am looking for a notetaking App. Much be 100 items pop up. How do whittle it down?
