iPhone 4: Gyroscope Games
I though it'd be nice to have a thread dedicated to the release/update of games that utilize the new gyroscope in the iPhone 4. Here are the games I know of and any information I have on how they utilize the gyroscope (titles of the apps link directly to the app store page of that application):
- Real Racing
Controls are much better, turns are more responsive, straightaways are easier to control. Accelerometer is used if not on iPhone 4.
- Eliminate:GunRange
Aim by tilting/rotating your iPhone in the direction of the target. Crosshairs are in the middle of the screen and fire is of course done by tapping the screen. Aiming can be set to gyro or on-screen controls.
- Rubik's Cube
*Have not downloaded this app
- Gyro Draw
Hold the bottom section of the screen to put pencil to paper and create a drawing by tilting/rotating your iPhone in the appropriate direction. Nice comparison of gyro vs accelerometer within the app.
- Flip It! Gyro Game
Per Jeybee: "It's iPhone 4 only as the game totally relies on the gyroscope to work. If you've ever played the game Bop It! you'll be in familiar territory. For anyone else, you'll be shaking, flipping and jabbing your way through the game to win."
- N.O.V.A: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance
Per iTunes: "NEWLY UPGRADED FOR iPHONE 4 with optimized graphics for the Retina display & Gyroscope support for an innovative controlling and aiming precision."
- Zen Bound 2
If you've ever played Zen Bound you could see how the gyroscope would vastly improve gameplay. Tilting and twisting the rope around the objects feel fluid and far more life-like.

I didnt think RealRacing used the Gyroscope. I thought they only updated the game so it takes advantage of the higher resolution and added higher resolution graphics and AA.
Eliminate Gun Range was on TouchArcade which is how I found it used the Gyroscope.

Correct! From what I read it greatly improves response when turning and makes straightaways easier to control your line. Don't have $5 to try it though. Eliminate makes me excited to see the first step to what gaming will be like for iPhone 4. 360 degree gaming anyone

I guess that is why after the update I am actually able to drive without crashing. Just looked at the description and you are correct. I did not pay attention to it.

Check that out. I would also watch the YouTube video of Steve Jobs demoing it with Jenga.Last edited by StellarZ; 06-29-2010 at 02:38 AM.

Gyro Draw has been released recently. Yet another app that takes advantage of the gyro. I downloaded it tonight, it is a free app, and it does exactly as it sounds allowing you to draw using the gyro. A cool little add on is that it shows you the difference between the precision of the gyroscope vs. the accelerometer.

I am hoping a few apps I have already take advantage of the Gyroscope in the future. Apps like Saucelifter, Pocket Universe, AroundMe, Jet Car Stunts, Labyrinth, Labyrinth 2, Vector Ball, and Wooden Labyrinth 3D would be great.

New Gyro Game
Hey, wanted to let you know about a new gyro game, "Flip It!", I have coming out on the app store very soon (in the next week hopefully).
It's iPhone 4 only as the game totally relies on the gyroscope to work. If you've ever played the game Bop It! you'll be in familiar territory. For anyone else, you'll be shaking, flipping and jabbing your way through the game to win.
There's a vid and some pics up on my site. Can't wait for everyone to be able to try it!

Hey all! Just wanted to let everyone know of a few updates. Flip It! Gyro Game (Thank you Jeybee), Zen Bound 2, N.O.V.A: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, all use the gyro now. Please check the first post for updated links and description. Please anyone let me know of any other new games or updated games that utilize the gyro so we can keep this list up to date! Thanks!

Practically all gameloft FPS games use gyro. Smiley Face!
