Here are three basic questions to answer.
a) When did you buy your iPhone (or, when was it made).
b) What is the version of the OS?
c) What is the version of the modem firmware?

Go to Settings/General/About to get this information. You may not be able to jailbreak or you may be able to jailbreak depending on what you find.
