iPhone owners: GET THE ORB APP!!!
So after a bit of poking around on Google looking for something that would stream movies and music to my iPhone from my computer, I stumbled across Orb. I used to use it for opening documents on computers at school from my home PC before flash drives got big and floppies were still too much of a pain to carry around...and just found out that an app exists for iPhone/iPod touch. You can share ANY media file on your computer and it doesn't have to be in an iPhone compatible format (.mp4, h.264, etc.), it can be DivX or XviD and it streams PERFECTLY. I just sat through an episode of Prison Break, and while the screen is small, there was absolutely no lag or sync issues. The video is a little choppy as it isn't optimized for an iPhone (being DivX and all), but it is EXTREMELY watchable. Music plays with NO problems, and you could conceivably have a terabyte or more worth of storage if you listen to a lot of music on your iPhone. Obviously the buffer time varies depending on if you're on wifi/3g/edge, but I'd say the app is WELL worth the $10 it costs.
That is all.

Orb is free, and I've used it, but I actually prefer Sling Player Mobile's video quality, especially with sports.

+1 for Orb. I stream movies when I run at the gym.

It's a great app. I'd add a few things to it though. A shuffle option in the music folder for starters.
The only thing I don't like about this great app is the horrible fps when streaming videos.

I get nice smooth videos! What network are you on and what data speeds are you getting?

Another Orb lover here. I bought several webcams and with Orb I can see and hear almost everywhere in my house. I also use it for streaming movies music videos and viewing documents. Just a great app.

What data speeds do you get on your iPhone using the speedtest.net app?

the best part is that you can add default extensions to play. i added .mkv, .img and .iso files to the list and it plays all.

I need an ad hoc version because my internet blows where I work. It is useless for me at home because I stream everything to my PS3 in my livingroom.
