Air Sharing won't install on 2.2?
Hi all,
I can't get AirShare to install on 2.2. It fails with error 0xE00002e (unknown error) with iTunes and 'unable to download application' from the iPhone. (It downloaded and failed at the end of the installation stage). I tried the Apple support trouble tips and even re-pwnd to make sure.
Using a 2G, pwned to 2.2. Everything is working great. AirShare was working great on 2.1 prior to my upgrade. Now iTunes won't let me downgrade to 2.1 and restore the backup - so I'm stuck on 2.2.
The failed installation leaves behind an AirSharing directory /private/var/mobile/Applications/xxxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, Attempts to re-install leave additional AirSharing directorys... Uggg.
Any suggestions?

Is there an application update for AirSharing? I have installed just fine on my 2.2 firmware. Never had it on earlier firmwares.
Try going into your applications folder in itunes and check for updates.

Thanks bhz1. During my trials and tribulations, I had already deleted the app from iTunes and redownloaded the latest version with no help. Also, I'm fairly sure the AppStore iPhone app always downloads the latest version. Also tried deauthorizing/reauthorizing from the AppStore and all those crazy things.
Unfortunately, the problem remains. Anything / everything else appears to work correctly. I've tried reinstalling already purchased apps, buying new apps, etc without issues. I'll bet there is a dependency conflict -- like a Cydia app that installed something AirShare needs or wants configured differently (???) In truth, I have no idea. Just rambling.
Once this problem is discovered --- it'll probably be obvious.
Hey --- is there a way to rebuild the 'AppStore' installed database? Or some other tools that could attempt to clean-up iPhone errors? More rambling here ... except for the unusable 0xE00002e (unknown error) message.
Oh yea, maybe a syslog file can shed some light on this? Maybe you / someone could direct me towards the log files I should look at?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Had another thought ... try to install a prior version (like 1.0, or 1.0.1, I save everything
) -- current is 1.1.1. But iTunes doesn't recognize the prior version -- even if the latest is deleted. Is there a work-around to install prior and authorized/legit Apps?
UPDATE 2222 (haha): In absolute desperation I completely removed AirSharing from iTunes and sync'd. Everything appeared normal. Unfortunately, when updating 'any' application from the iPhone .... that app IS updated BUT I also get the following error message:
"Unable to Download Application -- Air Sharing will be available for download when you log in to the iTunes Store on your computer. Done and Retry Buttons."
The iPhone is trying to update AirSharing forever. And since the 1st upgrade 'error'd' the app is no longer installed. It was deleted from iTunes and sync'd ... but not the iPhone. Also ... WinSCP/SSH now report about 4 or 5 instances of the AirSharing hex-crazy-name folder. Eventually, my system will run out of space ... and break something else.
Any suggestions?Last edited by Mes; 12-19-2008 at 07:22 PM.

Try deleteing the app from the iphone and deleting it out of the iTunes application folder. Resync your iphone. SSH in again and manually delete any of the remaining AirSHaring "hex-crazy" folders as you called them. Reboot your iPhone. I'd close and reopen itunes at this point if you havent done so. The re-download AirSharing from the app store via itunes on your computer. Resync your phone to install.
Ive had similar problems once or twice back when I was 2.02 and I learned back then it was better not to try and install or update appstore apps from the app store on teh iPhone itself. I kept to updating and installing via itunes up until recently, I decided to install an app (forget which) and ever since my phone has gotten a bit laggy and done some random weird things.l As soon as I have some time after Christmas at this point unless Im forced to do it sooner, I'll probably restore and re do everything. So I will continue to advocate refraining from using appstore on the iphone itself.

Thanks bhz1 ....... problem fixed.

Here's what I think finally fixed the problem. Was going to start from complete scratch, but as a last-ditch effort, I used WinSCP / SSH 'Terminal' and did a 'find / -name "Air Sharing" -print. Any directory that contained that name was deleted. Interesting I found AirSharing in the /private/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor folder (8 times in /private/var/mobile/Applications/xxxx-xxxx-xxx-xxx-xx. Regardless, everything was purged. (Last ditch effort and all
) Then a reboot, restart iTunes, all that stuff. .... ... and try again. Air Sharing installed correctly with AppStore iPhone.
On a side note .... I must be too-old (haha) because I thought I read someplace where installing apps via the iPhone AppStore is the 'preferred' method .... and iTunes install was problematic.
Thanks for your help.
