iphone 3g firmware on iphone 2g

now i have sucessfully installed 3g firmware,onto old 2g phone.
now can anyone confirm if it will become 3g enabled?
i dont have a 3g sim to test it.
but the phone is working fine.
it had to activated through itunes,which has gone ok.

or

is 3g something not in the firmware,and to do with the chipset?

the edge icon is showing,and no 3g icon.

i am using a 02 sim in it

3G is a chip.

Sorry guy, it's in the hardware. Although it would be awesome if they could integrate it in the Sim card.

cool idea but as said it is a hardware thing not software one. So you will just have to continue to use the 2G phone with the latest FW.
