FYI: iphone.facebook.com says that the new version is available for download, but the link doesn't work yet.

That just links to the current Facebook app, which is what's advertised. The 2.0 version won't come until notifications are released.

"We're preparing for the release of Apple's new push service, which will allow us to deliver Notifications to your iPhone even when you're not running Facebook for iPhone. I expect that to be one of the features in the next version after 2.0."

Push is for 2.1 I guess So I hope 2.0 hits today : )

Apple hasn't released the push service, so no new Facebook. It's been put on hold until Apple gets its act together.

To give more content, Facebook 2.0 was developed with the SDK that provides push notification functionality. This functionality was removed of the last SDK for some reason and push wasn't released with 2.1 Until the next firmware with push comes out, there's no real point in releasing the new facebook since it won't work.

Thanks everyone for being patient waiting for me to finish Facebook for iPhone 2.0. The good news is, I plan to submit the update to the iPhone App Store a week from today. That doesn't necessarily mean you will be able to download it a week from today - Apple reviews every application before making it available, and they can sometimes take up to a week. So, you may get the update as soon as next Wednesday, or as late as October 1st.
