Default can a 5volt 500mA charger charge an itouch 4g?

I heard ipad chargers need to be at least 2.1A, and was wondering if there are similar restrictions to iphones and itouches

i have an old griffin charger i bought a while back for my 3rd gen nano. the output on it is 5.0V 500mA (griffin 17b061001)

anyone tried/know if a 4g ipod touch will charge with this?

Im no expert on those numbers and whatnot but I do know if you try using an outdated charger, it probably won't work. Like I said, I don't know the numbers but I do have an example of personal experience. I had an iPod Mini (yeah, those are old, the ones with the big fat square adapter) and decided hey I need a spare cord anyway. Took that and plugged my iPhone 3G into it, didn't do anything. Plugged my iPhone 4 into it, didn't do anything. Plugged my friend's iPhone 2G and it worked.

So I can't be sure if the 2G uses a different voltage or whatever compared to the iPhone 3G and up, nor can I be sure if it's the fact that maybe the technology in the 2G is compatible with that of an iPod mini. Either way, on the newest devices, I'd say a charger from 6+ years ago won't work

I know I sound silly lol not being able to get technical, but I hope this is in some way helpful.

Edit: 3rd gen nano and we are on 6th gen now, so about 3 years ago? iPhone 2G was released like 4 years ago? It might work.

Lol yeah it probably won't hurt. All it did to my iPhone 4 was not charge it. Unplugged it and put my iPhone 4 charger back in and it was fine (I'm paranoid too lol, I had to check immediately).
