2G iphone on 3G Dock?

My auxiliary output on my 2G iphone no longer works. I want to play music in my car using an auxiliary cable. I think the best way to do this is by placing the phone on a dock and using the dock's auxiliary output. Will this work? The only docks I've seen say they are for the 3G iphone. Will my 2G work on it? Also, can I play music using the dock without plugging in the USB cord (auxiliary only)?

The 2G is too fat for the 3G Dock... The 3G is too wide for the 2G dock.....

If you have a 3G Dock, I got a 2G dock I'll trade you!
