i have a car charger that works with my 3G but doesn't work with my Edge(1st generation) iphone.
but now i'm finding that the same car charger that DOES work with my 3G does NOT work with my new 3G[S]. wtf?!

can any1 help me with this? is there a way to make it work? i thought the 3G and 3G[S] stuff was supposed to be compatable?

Hmmm, the pin configuration in the dock connector was changed from first-gen to 3G....which is why they arent compatible.

They werent supposed to do that again with the 3Gs so not sure.

Some mfgs used the 'not recommended and now depreciated' 12volt firewire (1394) pins instead of the recommend 5volt USB pins for charging. Hense the reason 2G chargers do not work with the 3G. I've also found video cables and an expensive home radio/charger/speaker that work on the 2G and not work on the 3G. I would be very surprised every 3G accessory works with the 3GS. Just can't trust Apple anymore. Personally, I'm getting tired of replacing my accessories everything time I get a new iPhone. Very easy to double and tripple the true cost of a new iPhone.

i guess i'm having this problem because it's an 'el-cheapo charger from Amazon. it's not an apple product and i guess something just isn't right for the 3gS
