Hey Shelly! There is no "protection" on the inside. The case just snaps on. All plastic inside and out. I would imagine some scuffing if not scratching will occur if you swap the colors often. But on the bright side, you wont see the scratches since they will be covered by the case.

Honestly? I would say they are good. They are what they are. Plastic. They are firm and not flimsy. The case is about 1mm thick if that but sturdy. The painted finish is nice also. Kind of a metali flack, glossy look. The eBay ones are a pretty darn good replica of the iPhone backing. Well worth the $10 for 5. Yes I did get 5!
