Default 1,000mA / 1A USB chargers (sometimes needed for iphone 3G)...

When attempting to get my iPhone 3G mounted to my motorcycle with an A2DP adapter that has mini-USB (for charge-through), I discovered that the iPhone 3G often requires more than .5A/500mA when connected to a power source with no USB host (the wall plug is 1,000mA/1A). I was pressed for time (needed to make a cross-country trip with it) and the only 1000mA charger I could find in stores with a regular USB port that can output 1A is the Belkin "Dual Auto Charger" ($30 at Fry's and Wal-Mart; MORE than the A2DP adapter!). Others are either hard-wired to an iPod dock connector or I would have to wait for shipment from Hong-Kong.

This particular piece of kit includes that 12v "cigarette lighter plug" car adapter with two ports: "QuickCharge" (1A) and standard (.5A). It also includes a rather heavy-gauge Belkin USB charge/sync cable for Apple devices and a mini USB cable, which was strangely appropriate for my intended usage (though I had plenty). Belkin paid all their dues and the box does sport both "Made for iPod" and "Works with iPhone" logos.

Beware of other "1A/1000mA" alternatives! Most simply total the output of both USB ports! If you are looking for a cheaper 1000mAh "Fast Charger" for a similar purpose, please post your finds. I wasn't willing to wait on one from eBay or DealExtreme

Of course it does, which is why I said to beware of others. It just costs too much and isn't available without the extra cables. Basically, any dual-port charger can be a 1000mA charger if you happen to have a Y-cable from a USB powered HDD or somthing (some have these because they draw more than 500mA). They don't seem to sell those in stores either, but $30 for this alternative is way too much.
