[ REVIEW ] Arkon Weighted "Friction Style" Dash Mount & Holder

PRICE: $29.95
BRAND: Arkon
MODEL: IPM112 : Deluxe Non-Skid / Friction Style Weighted Dashboard Mount with Safety Hook for Apple iPhone 3G and Original Apple iPhone
AVAILABILITY: http://store.modmyi.com/productacces...6amp%3B-Holder
I've been looking for a holder for my iPhone in the car for a while now. I don't like the suction cup goose-neck style mounts, mostly 'cause I enjoy a clean windshield. I saw the "friction style" mount by Arkon (read: beanbag-ish) and figured I'd give it a try.

When I first got it into the car, I was trying to set it in the center of the dash, and pretty frustrated with the results. I drive an SUV, and the console in the middle where the GPS and such is makes the dash not flat, so this mount was blocking my view like crazy. I moved it over to the side above the instrument panel, and after adjusting the neck and tilt accordingly (a very nice little feature) it worked nearly perfect.
The mount doesn't slide around or move at all for me - which is good. I was worried it would, but the weight of the thing keeps it solidly in place. The angle is great for watching GPS directions while driving (yah - my car has GPS, but the maps are two years old and I find the iPhone finds newer places much better), although I definitely wish I could angle it down just a little bit more.
Having a place to put the iPhone while driving has been nice - easy to check who's calling without having to try to pull the phone out of my pocket while driving, and mounting it to the left side of the windshield made it easy to get at. I'd previously resorted to setting it on my lap while driving, which had resulted in me getting out of the car without remembering it was there and having the iPhone hit the sidewalk more than once.
I'd recommend this for anyone with a decent size dash who has been thinking about an in-car stand. Note though - it IS a bit big, to get that weighted bottom. If you want a tiny footprint, go for the goose-neck style mount.
PROS:- Holds iPhone well.
- Doesn't move while driving - solid base.
- Doesn't block view of windshield.
CONS:- Wish I could angle it down just a little more.
- A little big.

Lead headrest with an iPhone sticking out of it.
Creative genius.
Should work on mounting small animals as well.
