I've found each new generation of white Apple earbuds fit me worse and worse than the previous ones - the physical design has changed several times over the years.
The rim on them seems to be less and less pronounced or more tapered than the ones that came with my first iPod (20GB, 3rd gen). the worst are the new iPhone ones with the mic, they just fall out of my ears. and not only that, because they don't sit tightly the sound is just bad.
it's not a huge worry for me, because especially when I'm on an airplane I use a pair of Shure SE210 in-ear earphones. they're great. but I keep a set of Apple's earbuds here and there for occasional use, in case my Shures aren't handy.
what I just realized is I've got several unused sets of those black foam earbud covers that came with various older gen iPods that I have. I slip a set of these onto the new 3G iPhone earbuds and now they fit me fine! Apple doesn't give these to you anymore - I wonder if you can still buy them in bulk from the Apple store (they fall off and get lost easily)
anyone with an old iPod - if you've got your old original box, I bet there's a couple sets of these old foam covers in there. might be worth a try if your white earbuds don't fit well.
otherwise, just go buy yourself a proper set of earphones
