Why did Apple design the iphone with the Terminals exposed?

If it gets damaged we're screwed.....

why would they do that?

Also, is there anything out there to keep them covered? I lost the little rubber cover that came with my protective case.

Thanks.

I just got my switcheasy capsule case today and it came with a plug for the charger/usb port but nothing for the audio plug which I thought would have been a great addition.

in fact, all if not most mobile phones have their terminals exposed.

i never had an issue after so many years of having so many different phones.

a baseless concern?

I can swee why this would be concerning to someone that maybe keeps their phone in a pocket with keys or something. The port is much bigger than that of most phones and I can see keys getting in there and messing something up. i recommend just getting a case and keeping it in there. That alone will reduce 99% of all chances to get the thing messed up. Its basically an ipod port... they used it because they didn't want to spend the time/money to produce something else since, for all intents and purposes, this one works just fine.

I have been using my iPhone since day one naked in my left pant pocket. Its like a designated pocket, nothing but my iPhone goes in there....

Anyway.... I have never had an issue with the terminals getting damaged... not just the iPhone either, but many other phones dont have covers for the terminals (iPods, Zunes, etc.)... and there never seems to be a problem.

No problems here either. Once in awhile I used to compressed air can to blow any dust out of there.
