07-29-2008, 11:46 AM #24Yes, it's the workaround for people with 3g. This is a huge problem and all over the Apple forums. We should be seeing a slew of "converters" or "adapters" to hit the market soon. From a business perspective this move to USB only benefits not only Apple, but the vendors that make the accessories.Does anyone know if this is 3G compatible or not?
We, the consumer, always get the sh!t end of the stick...

Regarding this Kensington unit: Can you charge it without having to use the USB cable? ie. I currently plug my Clarion ipod car audio accessory dock connector directly into my iPhone to play my music through my head unit. This used to charge my old iPhone but doesn't charge my new 3g iPhone. If I bridge the gap with this Kensington unit, will I still have to use the USB cable for charging or can the original dock connector cable to the job as per it's original method? If this is the case then would I be able to simply snip off that dangly usb cable and throw it away?
Any thoughts on this?

I have a kenwood headunit. It also used to charge my old iPhone. I'll be getting the 4-in-1 today for my iPhone 3G. I'll post results later.

i think i have the same one as you because of the brand name you speak of.... yea it works but when i go and look at the iPhone 3G's connector after using it, it looked kind of damaged, like part of the black plastic part is hit and dented and the pins looks like they ate raised a little but it still charges... im just worried in time after using the car charger, it will total the iPhone's connector...

When I first got my iPhone 3G last month I tried to use one of my friends old first gen iPhone car chargers, didn't work. The circuitry in the charger is different so none of the older gen chargers will work with the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 2G I believe. Just get one online at Amazon or something, I bought one online and it has worked fine. It will even charge my older iPod and my friends first gen iPhone.
I got mine online here: http://www.inspiretech.com/p-345-iph...r-charger.aspx
