I have a radio remote and was disappointed it didn't work with the iPhone...

Playing around I figured out how to get all the buttons to operate...

First either restart or kill the iPod by holding home for 10 seconds...

Line up the dock connector so u can quickly insert...

Open mobilefinder and as the default.PNG is loading plug in the remote...
try to get it in before the picture fills the screen..

Should say (unsupported airplane mode blah blah) hit no...

Open ur iPod go artist then album tracks... Or playlist as long as u see tracks .. And press the play button twice on the remote..

Voilà works, may work sum other ways but this works for everytime...
