Iphone AV Cable
Apple made a new AV cable to fit the iphone and all other new ipods that costs $49. 49 BUX FOR A FREAKING WIRE?! They made this new one because their is some kind of new chip which disables the old AV cables to work with the new ipods/iphones. Their are many generic ones everywhere but none of them fit the iphone, but i was recently on ebay and i found a generic one for 12 bux, if you guys want to check it out.. NEW! AV OUTPUT Composite CABLE FOR APPLE IPHONE - eBay (item 360058096035 end time Jun-05-08 04:20:22 PDT)

does it actually work? any reviews?
and it does say that it plugs into the dock... which makes me wonder if you need the universal dock for this to work.21.5" iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 l 15" MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 l 17" PowerBook 1.67 GHz

Please let me know if this works. I havent been able to find a kit that actually shows the video. Ive gone through like 6 or 7 Dynex kits with the universal dock and havent had any luck whatsoever. All of the generic ones don't work, and $50 for a cable that cost $2 to make is WAY to much

These are great for 12 bux if they work. Look forward to your review Mcabbas1.
Well I did take the plunge and buy an Apple one at radioshack for $50. I do think that's too much but I just had to have it!
I looked at the ebay link you posted and noticed it does not have the ability to charge/power the iphone. A feature I have needed. Still too expensive though.
Radioshack also sell for the same price, one for component video.
Although I have an HD TV, I opted for composite for versatility as I, and my friends all have TV's that work with that method, but not all have component connections on their TV's.
I watched Job's WWDC keynote all the way thru on my 60" TV from my iphone and the picture, although not HD, was great.
Pasted from Radioshack.com

I have the Apple Composite cable, and video works well, but volume is really low - you have to turn it all the way up to hear it, and that works okay as long as no one else in the room moves or breathes. Can you report how volume works on the generic one?

Mine worked great but now that I'm finishing off my already functional media center, I don't need mine anymore.
Anyone interested in buying mine, look up my post in the "buy/sell" section of this forum.
Saves you a buck or two

$49 is a little overpriced.

Thats why mine is $35 and negotiable.

Btw, anyone get the ebay cable? Do they work?

i have received it and it is working perfectly fine .. audio and video 10/10
i have received my cable and it works perfect.. audio and video 10/10 ... it just doesn't work in my car, but that is probably, because it is not compatible with the screen in my car, but works perfect on TV screens!Last edited by Mcabbas1; 06-27-2008 at 02:27 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I ordered this one yesterday. Bought from HHI before, everything worked as expected so I thought I'd try it out. Also on sale til 7/11/08 (IIRC from reading about their current specials).

Hmm... The one I received from HandHeldItems.com just worked, no problems. Plugged it into my iPhone dock, then plugged the other end (duh) into a free input of my A/V receiver and started watching. It looks just like the one from the eBay auction you linked, just more $ (but I did get it in two days after ordering).
Maybe you got a dud?

ugh, dang it. this is incredibly annoying considering it's the second 3rd party cable i've purchased for this reason. if i have to buy another, it will have cost the same just to buy an official apple one.
i'm not using it in my car. i tried it on two standard televisions and no video on either.
what firmware version are you running? i'm on the 2.0 version that came out a day early.Last edited by billchase2; 07-13-2008 at 05:01 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
